Vertuo machines have dropped in price. PriceSpy NZ showed the Vertuo Pop between NZ$119.99 and NZ$239 over three months, with prices falling.

The newer Vertuo Up is now on NZ shelves. It brews seven cup sizes for hot or iced coffee, and was NZ$299 at Noel Leeming on 25 October 2026.

Black Friday falls on 27 November 2026, so expect more price changes. We will recheck these prices before then.

How We Picked These Machines

AB has used the Breville Nespresso Essenza Mini at home. We have not used the other five machines yet, so we say that plainly.

For those five, we did desk research. Every machine had to be sold by an NZ shop on 25 October 2026. We took prices from PriceSpy NZ and shop pages, and specs from the brand’s NZ website where it listed them.

We read independent reviews from Tom’s Guide, TechRadar, Trusted Reviews and Tech Advisor. We also worked out the cost per cup from NZ pod prices. Read how we review.

1. Breville Nespresso Essenza Mini: Best for Most Homes

The Essenza Mini is the simple, small pod machine we suggest first. AB has used it at home. It is also the capsule pick in our best coffee machines NZ guide.

Buy it if: you want espresso or long blacks with no fuss, in a tiny space.

Skip it if: you want large mugs. It only makes espresso and lungo sizes.

What it does well:

  • Uses Nespresso Original pods, which have the most choice in NZ shops
  • Heats up in 25 seconds
  • The bundle adds an Aeroccino3 milk frother
  • 24-month warranty at Noel Leeming

Downsides:

  • Small 0.6 litre water tank, so you refill often.
  • Tom’s Guide found the used pod bin fills after about six pods.

Price: from NZ$229 for the Solo at Harvey Norman on 25 October 2026 (PriceSpy NZ). The bundle with frother was NZ$265 at Heathcotes.

2. Nespresso Vertuo Next: Best Value With a Milk Frother

The Vertuo Next bundle is the cheapest way we found to get a Nespresso machine plus a milk frother. Briscoes had it for NZ$199.99.

Buy it if: you want long blacks, mugs and the odd latte.

Price: NZ$199.99 for the bundle at Briscoes on 25 October 2026. JB Hi-Fi had it at NZ$210.

3. Breville Nespresso Creatista Plus: Best for Flat Whites

The Creatista Plus is a pod machine with a real steam wand that does the work for you. It is the pick if you live on flat whites.

Buy it if: you want café-style milk without learning to steam it.

Skip it if: you want double espresso. Tom’s Guide noted it has no double shot option.

What it does well:

  • Automatic steam wand with 8 milk textures and 11 temperatures
  • Heats up in 3 seconds
  • 1.5 litre water tank
  • Two-year warranty at JB Hi-Fi

  • Expensive for a pod machine.
  • Tom’s Guide found the crema thinner than a true espresso machine.

Tom’s Guide called it “a good quality model, with impressive features”.

Price: from NZ$596 at Harvey Norman on 25 October 2026 (PriceSpy NZ). JB Hi-Fi had it at NZ$698.

What it does well:

  • NZ$79 at Bunnings, with 64 pods in the box

Price: NZ$79 including 64 pods at Bunnings on 25 October 2026.

How Much Do Coffee Pods Cost Per Cup in NZ?

Original-style pods cost about 80c to 90c each in NZ. Vertuo pods cost about NZ$1.40 to NZ$1.70 each in Nespresso’s 2025 NZ prices.

These are the prices we could confirm:

  • Original-style pods: L’OR Ristretto was NZ$32 for 40 at The Warehouse, or 80c each (PriceSpy NZ, 25 October 2026).
  • Vertuo pods: Nespresso NZ listed recent Vertuo pods at NZ$1.40 to NZ$1.70 each in its 2025 price releases.
  • Lavazza A Modo Mio pods: NZ$21 to NZ$25 for 16 on PriceSpy NZ, or about NZ$1.31 to NZ$1.56 each.

Two Original pods a day at 80c is about NZ$584 a year. Two Vertuo pods at NZ$1.40 is about NZ$1,022 a year.

Vertuo or Original: Which Nespresso Should You Buy?

Buy Original for cheaper pods and short milk drinks. Buy Vertuo for big mugs and thick crema, but expect to pay more per pod.

Original machines take pods from Nespresso and other brands, including L’OR and Nescafé in NZ shops. Vertuo machines read a barcode on each pod, and Vertuo pods come from Nespresso.

Vertuo spins the pod to brew. That gives a foamy crema that suits a mug of black coffee.

How to Choose a Coffee Pod Machine

Pick the pod system first, because pods cost more than the machine over time. Original is cheapest to run.

Next, decide about milk. A bundle with an Aeroccino frother adds froth for lattes. The Creatista Plus has a built-in steam wand that does it for you.

Check the space under the spout if you use tall mugs. Buy from a NZ shop so the Consumer Guarantees Act applies.
